They were built for family outings and weekend getaways during the warm months and were intended to be stored away when the weather got too chilly for outdoor picnics. Fulltimers are faced with living in their traveling home, whether it is well designed for cold weather or not. Luckily, there are lots of things that you can do to make your RV more comfortable during the colder months. Let’s start by keeping that cold weather outside and the warm air in. To do this, you need to increase insulation and reduce cold air infiltration. Your windows are a great place to start. Most RV windows are single-pane and many do not seal well. Some sort of storm window is needed, and there are a lot of possibilities:
Customers who bring their RVs and check in with the Transportation Services lot attendant will receive 1 point for each game weekend they properly check in. If I purchase a 5th wheel RV and not use it for travel, but rather use it as a stationary home, would I need to change the holding tanks to Making RV fulltime stationary home Question: If I purchase a 5th wheel RV and not use it for travel, but rather use it as a stationary home, would I need to change the holding tanks to a more conventional disposal system like a regular home? Also would I need to enclose the sides of the RV like the skirting around a mobile home? It is really your choice as to what you do.
One thing to consider is if you think you might resell the fifth wheel at some point. If so, keep that in mind when deciding to make modifications. If you definitely plan to make this a permanent home and you have not yet bought the 5th wheel then you might want to consider a park model or single wide trailer instead. These units will not need any modifications to the sewer system and might be just as cost effective once you factor in the cost of making modifications.
A park model or single wide may also provide move livability — bigger space, appliances, water heater and so on. If you already have the 5th wheel or are getting one at a great price, here are a few comments about making modifications: One reason to bypass the holding tanks is the convenience of not having to dump and flush tanks. Remember that if you do retain the holding tank system, keep the valves closed until you dump and flush. Not keeping them closed will lead to waste solids accumulating in the holding tank.
Contained in large holding tanks, RV waste water is usually emptied into a sewer drain with a flexible plastic hose. However, when setup for extended living in a campground or RV park, the holding tank drain may be permanently connected to a sewer drain; this procedure saves the hassle of attaching, removing and cleaning the hose every time the tank is emptied. Take a measurement between the bottom end of the sewer hose adapter and the ground and subtract 2 inches.
Cut a section of 3 inch diameter PVC pipe equal to the measurement, minus the 2 inches, with a hacksaw. For example, if the distance from the ground to the bottom of the adapter is 2 feet, cut the pipe to a length of 1 foot 10 inches. Clean the burrs from the cut ends of the pipe with grit sandpaper.

Connect sewer hose to RV park sewer connection with a dip in the hose providing a sewer vapor block. See the illustrations above. Open both the black and gray water discharge valves. When putting solids into the toilet, flush and then fill the toilet bowl twice 2 times to the top with water and flush. The force of these 2 flushes will push all the solids out of the black water tank into the parks sewer line, stopping any vapors going up the tank vent.

Would you like to sell your park model? After your traveling days are over you might want to put a Park Model on your lot. Also, the Park Model is a good choice for snowbirds. The house can be locked up when you return back home, just like the home you left back up North when you come down South for the Winter.
There are many park model parks in Florida, California and Arizona, for example. Some resorts have condo covenants and restrictions like many nice neighborhoods and condominiums. The covenants protect you and your property value. There are advantages like saving or not paying property tax, the land is taxed, but the house is classified as a RV and you buy a license for it low maintenance fees to co-ops to pay for water, sewer, garbage, landscaping, etc.
Any property has to have some sort of insurance to consider. Park Models in the right association can be a pleasure to own. It can serve as a second home, a place to escape and enjoy.

Most people do not have RV parking at their house, many cities do not allow you to park them on the street, and RV storage at a commercial lot can be expensive. For some, parking your RV on the street is a free, convenient option that makes life as an RV owner much easier. However, for many people in San Diego County and beyond, this is not an option.
The permit is only good for parking your RV on the block where you reside, and you must have proof of your address when applying for the permit. This means that you may be able to have guests stay in their motorhome in front of your house for three nights at a time, but you will not be able to park an RV near your house on a long-term basis. Plus, this does not only apply to motorhomes; parking other recreational vehicles on residential streets, such as boats, is also prohibited without these short-term permits.
This means that even if you do not have a motorhome, you may need RV parking for other vehicles.
