Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. A powered subwoofer like a bazooka tube would be the easiest solution. All it is is a tube with a speaker and built in amp. You hook up a power wire, a ground wire, a remote wire, and a speaker level input and you’re done. This is the only way you can hook up a sub to a stock system without an amp. There are a few head units that actually have enough power to push a subwoofer with bridged rear outputs. This would require a subwoofer with a low continuous power rating and would only sound good in a small vehicle.
Here are pictures and info about the visible upgrades to my stereo. Wiring Diagram is at the bottom. Most information is for LSE model, but there are wire colors at the bottom for other models.
How to wire LED Strips to car audio amplifier! Be careful when you DIY any project at home, especially wiring LED Lights to your AMP. It is always best to consult an expert at your nearest Audio shop before you attempt to hook up led lights to your amp!
Car Audio Black Friday Sales! Even though speakers are active loads resistance changes with frequency , it is accepted to treat speakers as resistors with a fixed resistance value usually 4 ohms. By combining speakers in different ways, maximum amplifier output can be obtained. For example if a 2-channel amplifier is rated to deliver a maximum output of watts at 2 ohms mono bridged , then by hooking up two 4 ohm subwoofers in parallel, a total load of 2 ohms is “seen” by the amplifier, obtaining optimum power.
Parallel Resistance People commonly hook up two or more speakers to the same channel out of an amplifier in parallel. This is achieved by hooking up the negative wire from the amp to all the negative connections of the speakers, and the positive to all the positive connections of the speakers. By doing this, the load seen by the amplifier is lower. For example, if two 4-ohm speakers are wired-up in parallel, then their total resistance will be half, or 2 ohms.
If three speakers are wired up in parallel, and they all have the same resistance value, then the total load would be a third of the value of each speaker’s resistance. Here’s a formula to calculate parallel total resistance for two speakers: For more than two speakers, use the following formula: So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this scheme?
First, if one of the speakers burns out, then the other one s keep playing. If the amplifier is not designed to receive lower loads provided by hooking the speakers up in this fashion, you might end up destroying your amplifier.
You can hook up 20 subs to a mono amp; BUT you have to configure the speakers by impedance/ohms. if you hook two 2 ohm speakers to a 4 ohm steady amp in parallel you will soon buy a new amp. if you hook 10 speakers in series you will not even get it warm. Each speaker will also divide the available wattage and will not have a lot of power.
They all have a wire for the memory which is continuous power and one for main switchable power. There will be one main ground and a speaker ground. The rest of the wires are for the speakers. These are usually paired as the same color except the wire with the black stripe is the speaker ground. The easiest way to hook up a new radio is to get a pigtail harness for the Sony XPLOD from any store that sells radios.
This is a direct hook up simplifying installation. The pigtail has the proper connection to simply plug in to the original connector and the other end to the new radio. Remove the instrument panel to reveal the molding covering the radio. Remove the screws holding the radio into the dash. Pull the radio out and disconnect the antennae and the wiring connector and the radio. Plug the antennae in and install the radio and trim in reverse order of removal.
PA-Performance is widely know for their high performance charging and starting systems. They have specialized in high output alternators for the Mustang for nearly a decade. Now this is a amp 6G series alternator that comes complete with an internal voltage regulator and a pulley that allows you to reuse your factory belt. Although, I would recommend replacing your belt while you’re in the area, since you’re going to be replacing your alternator anyway.
This is a direct replacement that increases the charging capacity at all rpm ranges without any modification necessary.
Jan 06, · the impedednce doesnt come from the amp. it depends on how you wire your subs. your subs will be either dual 2 ohm, dual 4 ohm or dual 6 ohm most likely. those diagrams show 2 different ways to wire them up and what your final impedence will be when wired that way, depending on what ohm load your subs carry. if you want your subs to see 2 ohms.
Friday, October 15, – First off, I have JVC 40×4 head unit not sure of model offhand, it’s about 4 years old. The fronts work fine even now. I had the speakers hooked to a Koiilenger sp? Can’t think of the brand of speakers offhand. What happened initially is I hit a pothole in the road.. My amp cut off. I thought it was the negative had come loose before it has done that before. The negative was plugged in fine, and everything was tight. The protection light stayed on on the amp.
Well, I got tired of that and decided to buy a new amp temporarily.
How do you hook up amp to a radio with no RCA input? What you need is a line level converter. This device pinches off existing, amplified, speaker wires coming out of your OEM deck. It has RCAs on it It changes the value of energy from amplified to line level, which your amp is looking for.

To get it right, always keep these points in mind: A car requires a head unit with RCA output to connect to the amp. Speakers and subs will need to have the same output power as that of the channels on the amp. With that in mind, there are a few things that the buyer will need to consider before making that important purchase. Type of Car Amplifier Car amplifiers are generally broken down into three categories: Single or mono channel amplifiers — These are used for subwoofers.
Do you need an amp if you want to put a subwoofer in your car? Answer Depends on how much juice the sub uses ,but almost always the answer is yes especially if you want a sub that kicks at all. You’ll need an amp if your subwoofer costs anywhere over about 50 USD. Otherwise the subwoofer is probably junk and you shouldn’t waste your money on it anyway. What amp do you use for a car subwoofer?
Apr 06, · Best Answer: You need a subwoofer amplifier. These are listed by RMS watts, not peak watts, max watts, or some other useless wattage rating commonly used in car audio. So try to find the RMS rating for your sub to decide which amp you : Resolved.
Whether it’s an installation that might not have gone as planned, or a random problem that comes out of nowhere. Here is a list of your common car stereo problems, symptoms and solutions to help get your stereo up and running! Many Jeeps and Chevrolet systems have a data signal wire that carries a very low voltage signal that tells the OEM Head Unit when to turn on, however; it is not compatible with aftermarket units.
If you have a voltage meter or a test light, test the ground black , constant 12v yellow , and accessory 12v red wires to make see if you have the correct voltage in the correct wires, as well as a good ground. Constant will always be 12v, whether or not your car is on. Make sure to use your ground, as well as another ground like the frame or body of the car while testing your constant and accessory to test that you have a good ground.
Charger Sort of new to the forum, sorry if I miss anything but I’m not going into HEAVY detail, I figure if anyone is looking to install an amp, they should have prior knowledge on it before ripping apart a new car. I couldn’t find the speaker wires for the life of me anywhere on the internet, so I’m hoping this thread can help someone out who was in my predicament.
Anyone can feel free to chime in for some better tips or anything I left out, including corrections. Wire to the battery or any NON-painted screw on the trunk, you can find quite a few from the wires that come out of the harnesses once you lift the trunk lid. Personally, I flipped open the fusebox right beside the battery and with a 12v tester, went through each fuse slot.
I don’t have a picture or good memory but I chose the fuse on the top right corner that says “Cigarette Lighter”.
May 13, · Best Answer: well you go buy an amp kit. then you take the power wire from the amp kit and put that wire from your battery to your amp in the slot that has a 12+ on it. then take the ground out of the kit and connect that to the chassis of the car on clean bare metal. then take your rca Status: Resolved.
Or do i need that tacotunes equalizer thing? In my head its like I also thought of I never use my Aux cable. I wouldnt need the car to play if the bed is playing too.. Sounds a bit complicated and I’m not sure it’s worth it. But yes, you have it right for the most part. You use the harness on the back of the head unit and run the leads to the amp you want to supply power to your bed speakers.
Let me say right up front that you only need to read this article if you are lucky enough that your group is getting bookings in large or outdoor venues. But if you have a good set of main PA speakers that are starting to sound strained at those large gigs, you might want to think about a next logical step. You can send comments, questions, or scathing diatribes to Larry at lmundy attbi.

How to Wire an Amp to a Sub and Head Unit A sub woofer or two in a vehicle can make the world of difference in listening to music. It is very important to match the RMS of your subs to your amp. You want an amp more powerful than your sub, because you don’t want your sub to clip. Clipping is the number one reason of bass distortion. Steps 1 Gather your equipment Amp, Subs, Stereo, and wiring.
If you’re using an after market head unit, go to an electronics store’s stereo department and ask for a wiring harness from your car to the after market head unit.
That might be a bit much for those of you who are starting out. With this being said, the question we want to answer is: One of the biggest things about this little piece state of the art that is noticeable immediately is its impressive low frequency output from a remarkably small enclosure. Additionally, the Hideaway comes with a remote bass-control to let you adjust bass levels on the fly according to your mood.
First of all, I think audiophiles with smaller cars might benefit from this enclosed sub more than most.
